ENGLISH ATTACK ON GALICIA: FROM RIBADEO TO VIGO
After the failed Spanish operation in Scotland, England planned a military operation on the northern coast of Spain to take some port of relevance.

Following the mobilisation of part of the powerful squadron led by Admiral Norris, attacks began against the port of Santoña in Santander where its shipyards were destroyed. This is followed by the taking of Ribadeo on 27 September 1719, where the English remain for 4 days after payment of a toll. The next objective for the English, after looting the coastal villages of Chanteiro (Ares), Caión, Barizo (Malpica de Bergantiños) and Fisterra, was Vigo.
